THE OPPORTUNITY
The successful candidate will enter this role with the knowledge that Maryhurst has sustained strong fundraising performance year over year. The development team (energetic, stable and capable) has created a strong culture of donor stewardship. There is still room for growth and capacity-building in areas of planned giving, major gifts, and online giving. While it is a stable development environment, it will be a space to make a mark with an entrepreneurial, creative spirit. In 2023, Maryhurst will be entering into strategic planning thus this role will be part of the team to help shape the fundraising and organization vision for the next few years. The previous Vice President of Development was recently promoted to Chief Community Officer; the VP will have the benefit of reporting to and working with the CSO also having exposure to advocacy and policy work.


CANDIDATE PROFILE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Maryhurst seeks a Vice President of Development who has the skills and ability to embrace and lead these functions:

  • Leads the creation and management of a comprehensive annual fundraising plan and appeal schedule that utilizes a variety of mediums (e.g., electronic appeals, direct mail appeals, online fundraising campaigns, face-to-face solicitations) to communicate with potential and current donors.
  • Sets annual fundraising goals and develops and monitors all department related budgets.
    Leads on the creation of systems to ensure excellent stewardship of all donors.
  • Coaches team members to set ambitious goals and maximize their impact in their respective areas of responsibility.
  • Ensures accountability across the Development team on the execution and high performance of fundraising campaigns.
  • Alongside the Resource Development Chair, manages the Board Resource Development Committee.
  • Builds strong relationships and works directly with Board members on various fundraising activities.
  • Work collaboratively with the Director of Impact Giving and CEO to identify and solicit donors with higher giving capacity.
  • Steward and invites investment from a small portfolio of individual and corporate donors.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree from a school accredited by an accrediting body of the Council on Higher Education Accreditation.
  • At least 5 years professional experience in fundraising, community relations, or other relevant area.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Enthusiasm to meet new people and draw them into our mission.
  • Entrepreneurial spirit including the willingness to take calculated risks and understand that failure is an important part of success.
  • Positive "Can Do" attitude.
  • Intermediate knowledge of computer software applications.
  • Basic knowledge of donor databases.
  • Exceptional time management and detail-orientation skills.
  • Successful completion of pre-employment drug screen.
  • Successful completion of a background check.
  • Successful completion of a TB test or proof of a negative chest X-ray


COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
Maryhurst is prepared to offer a competitive salary in the range of $80,000 - 85,000, commensurate with experience. Benefits include medical, dental, and vision insurance, and company paid short- and long-term disability, Maryhurst also offers a 403b program with a 3% match that can be applied to retirement contributions or cover student loan repayment, as well as paid time off for vacations and holidays and embraces a flexible work schedule.
