St. Vincent de Paul, Louisville (SVDP), a lay Catholic organization, serves individuals and families who are homeless, living in poverty, suffering from addiction, enduring mental illness, or experiencing acute economic crisis. Founded in 1853, SVDP offers a continuum of care that includes food, shelter, affordable housing, counseling, quality out-of-school time programs for at-risk youth, and emergency financial including assistance with rent and utility bills. Our organization assists people, regardless of their background or faith, with the goal of helping each person achieve self-sufficiency.

SVDP is one of the longest serving social charities in Louisville. Our mission is simple, we house, feed, and support those in need with compassion and dignity. OPPORTUNITY

SVDP is seeking an Accounting Manager. This position reports directly to the Chief Financial Officer, a forward thinking and inclusive leader. This is a critical role in the organization providing accounting support to the CFO and occasionally to other members of the senior leadership group, the Board of Directors and various Board committees. This position will work closely with the Director of Development, Chief Executive Officer and the Chief Operating Officer. The Accounting Manager oversees a three-person team, including a payroll/accounting analyst, grants accounting specialist and an accounts payable specialist. This role is responsible for managing the financial operations of the agency as well as all historical record keeping.


CANDIDATE PROFILE AND RESPONSIBILITES

  • Responsible for recording financial transactions and maintaining and updating all financial records daily.
  • Plans, implements, and administers the day-to-day operations of the payables and receivables for SVDP.
  • Reviews and approves reconciliations, journal entries, and financial statements to ensure that they are prepared properly and follow-up on any unusual item
  • Oversee all financial operations, including, but not limited to:
    • preparation of budgets
    • management of all payroll functions
    • management of accounts payable and accounts receivable
    • cash receipts and disbursement of funds
    • legally required reporting, tax form preparation (including form 990)
    • filing of all grant compliance forms
    • financial reporting
    • preparation of annual reports
  • Work with outside auditors and the Audit Committee of the Board to complete annual audits.
  • Manage the budget preparation process for multiple departments within this unique business model.
  • Produce monthly management financial reports including revenue and expense, budget variances, balance sheet, key performance metrics and analytical commentary.
  • Assist the Director of Development, COO and CFO with financial reporting information as it relates to grants and other funding sources.
  • In collaboration with the CFO, manage the accounting staff, both permanent and temporary, creating an environment that promotes staff growth and development.
  • Manage grant billing process and secure systems, including banking operations.
  • Oversee all cash management functions, including working capital, borrowings and repayment processes.
  • Continue to monitor, enforce and enhance the system of internal controls
  • Help identify systems and process improvement opportunities, develop specific recommendations, business cases and implement such recommendations to improve efficiency and effectiveness in the accounting and finance functions.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field.
  • CPA, CMA, Chartered Global Management Accountant or equivalent, preferred, but not required.
  • AICPA Not-for-Profit Certification a plus.
  • Strong knowledge of general accounting principles, reporting, internal controls and related procedures.
  • Demonstrated success in accounting, general ledger, payables, fixed asset, receivables and related systems and financial management.
  • Excellent financial analytical and reasoning abilities
  • Knowledge of HUD grant regulations and tax credits preferred, but not required
  • 501(c) accounting experience preferred.
  • Must be detail oriented and possess strong time management skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Experience working and interacting with boards, committees, and community leaders.
  • Resourceful and well-organized.
  • Participative management style - an advocate of the team concept.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

The St. Vincent DePaul Society is prepared to offer a competitive salary in the range of $60,000 to $75,000, commensurate with experience.
